Phoenix Metropolitan Area's Top Pool Renovation & Remodeling Company

We are a family-run landscape design and build company in Gilbert, and pool remodeling has been part of our work across the Phoenix metro for more than 30 years. We renovate existing pools only. We do not install new ones. If your pool still has good bones but looks tired, we bring it back to life with fresh finishes, new tile, updated decking, and better equipment.

What does it cost? Our pricing page lists it plainly: cosmetic to moderate pool remodels such as resurfacing and new waterline tile usually run $5,700 to $13,000. A full remodel with new surface, tile, coping, and equipment runs about $35,000 to $50,000. Most remodels take 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the scope.

Comprehensive Pool Renovation & Remodeling in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area

A pool remodel touches more than the water. Our team looks at the whole picture, from the surface you swim against to the deck you walk on and the equipment that keeps it running. We resurface with plaster or pebble finishes, replace worn waterline tile, rebuild coping, and refresh the decking so the space feels new again. Because we design and build under one roof, the pool and the surrounding backyard come together as one plan instead of a patchwork of separate contractors.

Every home in the Phoenix metro and the East Valley is a little different, so we start with a free consultation and a custom 3D design that shows you exactly how the finished pool will look. You get a detailed estimate before any work begins, and a licensed landscape architect on staff makes sure the design fits your yard, your budget, and how your family actually uses the space. We renovate existing pools only, so the focus stays on making what you already have work better.

Custom Pool Upgrades Designed for Arizona’s Climate & Lifestyle

Summer in the East Valley is long and hot, and an older pool often has more room to improve than homeowners expect. We tailor each remodel to how you live around the water, adding shade, water features, or fresh landscaping that make the pool area more comfortable through the warm months. These are upgrades to your existing pool, not a new build.

Equipment is often the quietest win. Swapping in a variable-speed pump, LED lighting, and updated filtration can lower running costs and make the pool easier to maintain, all while working well in Arizona’s climate. We handle the surfaces too, resurfacing worn plaster and replacing cracked or dated tile so the finish holds up to strong sun and heavy use.

We do not offer ongoing pool cleaning or maintenance service, and we stick to residential remodels. What we do is help Phoenix metro families get more out of a pool they already own, with honest advice about what is worth doing and what can wait.

Water in the Phoenix area is hard. Over the years, calcium leaves white scale along the waterline tile and roughens older plaster, and dust from monsoon storms adds to the load on the filter. A remodel is a good moment to replace stained tile, choose a finish that shows scale less, and start the new surface with balanced water.

Modern Pool Remodeling: Resurfacing, Tile, Decking & Equipment Upgrades

Resurfacing is the heart of most remodels. We refinish tired pools with durable plaster or pebble finishes that stand up to Arizona sun and years of use. From there we replace worn waterline tile, rebuild coping, and update decking so the whole pool area matches. We work on existing pools throughout the Phoenix metro, never new installations.

Most resurfacing jobs follow the same order. The pool is drained, the old surface is prepared so the new finish can bond to it, waterline tile and coping are replaced if they are part of the plan, and the new finish goes on. Then the pool is refilled and the water is balanced carefully over the first few weeks while the finish cures. With the pool already empty, it is also the easiest time to update the deck and the equipment.

Features

Once the surfaces are handled, we look at the equipment that keeps everything running. Upgrading pumps, filtration, and lighting makes an older East Valley pool cleaner, quieter, and cheaper to operate. Small changes here often make the biggest difference in how the pool feels day to day.

A remodel is also a natural time to look at safety. Arizona cities set their own pool barrier rules, usually covering fence height and self-closing, self-latching gates, so check what your city requires. Drain covers should meet the anti-entrapment standard in the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, and new lights and equipment need proper electrical bonding and GFCI protection under the electrical code.

The Pool Equipment Brands We Install

A pool remodel is also the right time to upgrade the equipment that keeps everything running. We install pumps, filters, heaters, and automation from Pentair and Hayward, which cut energy use and make an older pool easier to run. Dream Retreats remodels existing pools and does not build new pools, so these equipment upgrades are part of the remodeling work. See the full list on our brands we install page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our pool renovation services? Find answers to the most common inquiries below.

Cosmetic to moderate pool remodels such as resurfacing and new waterline tile usually run $5,700 to $13,000. A full remodel with new surface, tile, coping, and equipment runs about $35,000 to $50,000. Your number depends on the size of the pool, the finish you choose, and how much of the deck and equipment is replaced. See our pricing page for the full list.

Most take 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the scope. Resurfacing and tile updates usually finish in about 2 weeks, while remodels that include structural work, new equipment, or major decking changes can take up to 4 weeks. You get a timeline for your own project at the on-site estimate.

No. We remodel existing pools, including the surface, waterline tile, coping, decking, and equipment. If you want a brand new pool, a pool builder is the right call.

Plaster is the classic smooth finish and usually the lowest cost up front. Quartz finishes mix colored quartz into the plaster for more color and a little more durability. Pebble finishes use small, smooth stones for a textured surface that tends to last longer and hide stains and scale better, at a higher price. The right choice depends on your budget, the look you want, and how long you plan to keep the pool.

Phoenix-area water carries a lot of calcium. It builds up as white scale on waterline tile and wears on older plaster, which is often why a pool starts to look tired. A remodel lets you replace stained tile, pick a finish that shows scale less, and start the new surface with balanced water, which helps it last.

Check that the barrier and gates meet your city’s pool barrier rules, which usually cover fence height and self-closing, self-latching gates. Make sure drain covers meet the anti-entrapment standard in the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. New lights and equipment should be electrically bonded and GFCI protected under the electrical code.

It depends on the work and where you live. Resurfacing alone may not need a permit in some cities, while changes to the structure, equipment, electrical, or barrier often do. Many East Valley HOAs also review visible changes such as new decking. Check with your city and your HOA before work starts, and ask your contractor who handles each approval.

Yes. We visit your property, look at the existing pool and deck, take measurements, and talk through what you want before giving you a detailed estimate.

What our customers say about our pool remodels

Tanya T.Oct 2015

After meeting with 10+ contractors, we selected Todd to help us with our pool remodel and building a BBQ. Todd was very patient with us, working through the design, looking at pictures with us to understand our style, and providing suggestions regarding what we might consider to for our design. When we selected our stone, tile, travertine, the gentleman at the store said Todd did his backyard. I am not sure how many landscaping/installation companies are in Phoenix area - but to have others in the business speak so highly of another partner - we were all in - wow!! Todd and his team were on time, on budget, and provided excellent personal customer service. In the mornings, Todd would stop by and check-in, provided personal small improvements, touches to give us the backyard of our dreams. We would highly recommend Todd to anyone and we will definitely use Dream Retreats again!

I believe you get a lot of value from what you pay for. Where Dream Retreats shines is in their ability to help you design a holistic functional outdoor living space and manage the important details throughout the entire process. Since I was adding a pool to my backyard, I opted to have the patio tie into the pool for a uniform look. While I knew I could have my pool builder do it, I knew I would have far more material options and plan flexibility if I went with a professional landscaping company. I am glad I did because dealing with any changes through the pool builder was very frustrating.

Sonny listened to our ideas and gave us recommendations that we did not think about. There was a lot of forward thinking and setup that ended up saving me money and future headaches, which I greatly appreciated. I changed my mind on a few things as I got a better visual of how things would look, and it was never a problem to make adjustments. The owner Todd, Alex the site manager and their crew was a pleasure to work with. They were always on time and did what they said they would do.

There were no surprises on what I was going to pay. I received a detailed cost breakdown for everything that was being done. I will not hesitate to use Dream Retreats landscaping for any future projects.

Barry C.Jun 2024

We reached out to Dream Retreats (referred by a neighbor) in early November 2023 with regard to a pool deck/patio project. Sonny, a landscape architect, came out to our house, discussed a number of different approaches, and took some photographs and measurements. In less than a week, he had created an incredibly accurate 3D-model of our backyard remodel that really helped us visualize the finished product. We committed to the project in early February, Dream Retreats got us on the schedule, and completed the work in one week in late March.

The project was overseen by Alex, who was very friendly and approachable. The drainage channel that was delivered to the work site was a lower-spec model than what had been quoted/agreed on - Alex hadn't caught that, but when I brought it to his attention, he took care of it and got the right product delivered. The construction work was done by a team of three men who put in long hours and demonstrated amazing workmanship. Their tile work was beautiful, they were very neat and tidy, and they clearly took exceptional pride in their work.

Because of a design oversight, the edge of the patio looked unfinished in a few areas where no vertical face tile was installed. I reached out to Dream Retreats, and the owner Todd came out to assess the situation. Without hesitation he accepted that the final job was not satisfactory, and he immediately committed to resolving the issue. We agreed on a solution, and he had the tile guys come out within 2 weeks to make the necessary repairs. The end result - our patio looks better than ever, and we are very satisfied with how everything worked out.

Would I recommend Dream Retreats? ABSOLUTELY! Sonny's impressive 3D-modeling of the project put Dream Retreats on the top of our list, the price was reasonable, Alex was a pleasure to deal with, the tiling team did magnificent work with great attention to detail, and the way Todd addressed our concerns shows that Dream Retreats really care about their customers and their reputation.
