Drainage Solutions Built for Monsoon Season

The Valley goes months without rain, then takes it all at once during monsoon season. On our caliche and clay soils, that water does not soak in. It pools against foundations, drowns plants, and washes out granite and pavers. A proper drainage plan uses grading and buried systems to carry storm water where you want it. For more than 30 years we have solved drainage for homes in Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Scottsdale, and across the Valley, so every solution is matched to your slope, soil, and problem areas.

Materials and Methods We Use

Good drainage is about gravity and the right buried components. We establish correct grades first, then add the collection and carry-away systems the yard needs.

French Drains

Perforated pipe set in washed gravel and filter fabric that collects subsurface water and carries it away from foundations and low spots.

Catch Basins and Channel Drains

Surface inlets and channel drains that capture storm water at patios, driveways, and pool decks before it can pool or run toward the house.

Grading and Dry Creek Beds

Precise re-grading, swales, and decorative dry creek beds that direct storm flow across the yard while looking like part of the desert design.

Every system is checked for correct fall and outlet before we finish, so water moves the way it should during a real storm and your hardscape and plantings stay protected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about yard drainage and French drains in the Phoenix area. Reach out any time for answers specific to your yard.

In the Phoenix metro, a professional French drain commonly runs from about $30 to $70 per linear foot depending on depth, length, and outlet, while full-yard drainage plans are quoted per project. We give you a firm on-site estimate after a free consultation.

Because our caliche and clay soils shed water instead of absorbing it, and many Valley lots are graded flat. When monsoon rain arrives all at once, it has nowhere to go and pools in low spots and against the house. Grading and buried drains give it a path out.

A French drain is a buried perforated pipe in gravel that collects water from a wide area underground. A catch basin is a surface inlet that grabs water at a specific spot, like a patio or downspout. Most yards use both, tied together into one outlet.

Yes. Water pooling against a foundation can lead to cracking, settling, and moisture intrusion over time, and it drowns plants and washes out granite and pavers. Correct drainage protects both the structure and the landscape.

Yes. We build drainage into new landscapes and remodels, and as a standalone fix when an existing yard floods, erodes, or pools after storms.

I believe you get a lot of value from what you pay for. Where Dream Retreats shines is in their ability to help you design a holistic functional outdoor living space and manage the important details throughout the entire process. Since I was adding a pool to my backyard, I opted to have the patio tie into the pool for a uniform look. While I knew I could have my pool builder do it, I knew I would have far more material options and plan flexibility if I went with a professional landscaping company. I am glad I did because dealing with any changes through the pool builder was very frustrating.

Sonny listened to our ideas and gave us recommendations that we did not think about. There was a lot of forward thinking and setup that ended up saving me money and future headaches, which I greatly appreciated. I changed my mind on a few things as I got a better visual of how things would look, and it was never a problem to make adjustments. The owner Todd, Alex the site manager and their crew was a pleasure to work with. They were always on time and did what they said they would do.

There were no surprises on what I was going to pay. I received a detailed cost breakdown for everything that was being done. I will not hesitate to use Dream Retreats landscaping for any future projects.

We had the best experience with Dream Retreats. My husband and I have been involved with several construction projects before and always hate the contractors by the time the project is done. But Dream Retreats was different right from the start all the way to the end of the project. They were professional, excellent communicators and never pressured us to "upgrade" anything we didn't want too. I think that was the best part, that Todd really helped us tailor our needs and was always honest with his opinion. Along with Todd, all his subs were also fantastic and every timely and efficient with their work. The project started and ended on time and exactly on budget! Sonny is an excellent designer and he was the only one who ( out several designers we interviewed) truly listened and got our vision. There was sales pitch, just delivering exactly what the customer wants!
High Recommend them and we are planning on using them again for our front yard! You won't go wrong with Dream Retreats!
