Backyard Remodel with Spa and Putting Green in Mesa, AZ

About the project

This Mesa home in Sunland Village was built in the 1970s and the back yard had aged with it. Gravel, tired shrubs and old stepping pads filled the space without giving the family a single reason to walk out into it.

That is where Dream Retreats stepped in. The family wanted the yard brought forward fifty years without losing the settled feel of an established lot. We cleared it back to ground and rebuilt it over two to three weeks.

  • Removed the old gravel, shrubs and pavers
  • Laid new concrete pavers across the patio and paths
  • Installed a partial in-ground spa and a putting green
  • Built a pergola for shade over the seating area
  • Ran a landscape lighting system and planted new shrubs and trees

The yard now has three things it never had, which are somewhere to sit in the shade, somewhere to play, and somewhere to sit in warm water at the end of the day. The pergola gives the patio a reason to exist through an Arizona afternoon, the putting green turns dead ground into something the family actually uses, and a curved run of artificial turf ties the paver patio to the planting beds instead of leaving the yard in squares.

Before the remodel the back door led to gravel, which is why nobody used it.

This project ran $43,000 to $45,000, which sits in the normal band for a full back yard rebuild on an established lot.

If your yard still looks like the decade the house was built in, this is what a rebuild looks like. Dream Retreats designs and builds the whole thing, so you deal with one company from the 3D design through to the last plant.
